Sideswipe Brewing – Elegant Hoodlum – Smoked Stout – 5 out of 7 Smokestacks

Side Swipe Elegant Hoodlum

Mike brought me this one from Ohio. For me, this one is a truly dark beer (7 out of 7), but some images on the internet show that it has worn many different colored hats in its day… I typically like the darker hats. I poured this into a glass and hit it with the brightest light I could find (from my phone), and light only revealed a deep amber red color just around the outside edge. Smell was less than forthcoming where I had to be coaxed into bumping it up to a 4 Smokestacks opacity rating. Then the battle of wits began where I said to the official SmokeBeerMinister and Chef and dad to be, Manuel, “I don’t smell any smoke.” and he said, “I totally smell the smoke.” and then I said, “I smell the smoke.” and he said, “Less smoke now.” I’ll spare you the rest, but I have pages and pages of stenographer’s notes. The taste is malty. The silt probably cost it a point in overall happiness. And I dribbled a bunch on my chin. Overall Happiness: 5 out of 7 Smokestacks.
