Mikkeller – Rauch Geek – 3 out of 7

image

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ve had a few tonight. One thing about beer reviews is that one’s mood can play into the review. Regardless of my spirits (psychological or ingested), I feel fully prepared to deliver an unbiased review of this beer. Mikkeller Rauch Geek smells like a malty Mikkeller beer concoction. The stout is proud and upfront and all up in my nose. Taste = even maltier than expected. Smoke? Thick malty head fizzled away within a few minutes. I cooked steak on my charcoal grill today; it was good. My neighbor’s car alarm keeps going off, every 20 minutes or so, on for 3 minutes, off for 20. I’m getting sick of this. I don’t like this beer. This beer was at my first ever SmokeBeerMinistry tasting and this is about what I remember. There’s coffee taste in here (indifferent). Almost no smoke (bad). No peat (usually good). And a tiny tiny amount of yeast silt (good). I have more beer. Overall happiness metric = 3 out of 7 (not so good).
