Benford Brewing – Smoked O’Hickory – 3 out of 7 smokestacks

Only the 5th smokebeer I’ve ever seen in a can (and 2nd this week). That’s unusual. It’s also unusual to see silt pour out of a can, but with beer companies throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the market, I guess I’m not too surprised. O’Hickory poured a little thin and wafted out nice smoke aromas which made the intense tart and bitter tastes so much more of an unpleasant surprise when they pulled all remnants of moisture out of my mouth. The smell and taste of this beer are two different beers. Then, after drinking past the halfway mark, the beer fails to get any better. Advice? Drink this one fast. That’s all I have. Overall score – a very generous 3 out of 7.

Medium body and finish with smoke flavors that are not overbearing for a highly drinkable beer.
