Meantime (do-over review) – Old Smoked Bock – 3 out of 7

20170513_220609

Well, Meantime Old Smoked Bock is getting better, slightly. This is a do-over review after the last bottle caught some kind of disease, destroying the beer. A friend of the ministry named Mugs requested this beer get a do-over after he experienced something more positive than what was described here in the original review. “Fair enough” we said, so here we are. And if the carbonation were a metric, we would have only hopped up 2 notches, at best. And even with this little carbonation seen in this picture, it was still a big improvement from the last one we got. After that, I noted that it smelled alright, also I pulled out flavors of smoke, bread, malt, something sweet (almost Belgian), a touch bitter (presumably imparted by a familiar hops flavor that I can’t quite pinpoint). This beer reminds me of Ft. Collins darker beers, Epic’s beers, and a handful of some German brews that have been on the shelf a bit too long. The search for a smokebeer epiphany will continue. Overall smokestack metric = 3 smokestacks out of a possible 7 smokestack rating.
